THE FINE PRINT: The following preview is written using the information available at time of publishing. Race organizers reserve the right to change the details, including route, sometimes without warning. That said, the details listed below may change come race-day. I do my best to avoid that whenever possible -- but sometimes it simply isn't possible. Thank you for understanding. Keep R/B/S'ing! -R3KC
Same as the last two years: KC Running Co is hosting the event, therefore packet pick-up will be at both their Leawood and Lee's Summit locations on the same day and at the same times. Take your pick -- whichever is closest. I love it when they allow for an option on location.
And yes, you can pick up on race day. Just make sure to arrive early, as pick-up will be closing 30 minutes prior to the start.
Race Day Parking
Prepare to run in the dark! spoooooooky!! I used to do my "Virtual Run" with snapshots of the route, but, honestly, it's so dark most parts of the course, it doesn't really come in handy. It's well-staffed, though -- you'll have no problem navigating it.
It's a modified out-and-back on the park streets within Riverfront Park. If you're familiar with the area (or have run the race in the past), you'll know that, first you have to descend INTO Riverfront from River Market. It's only 50 feet or so (according to mapping, sometimes less), but really, it feels like so much more. It's not quite steep, but it's long(-ish) at a quarter mile or so.
Then flat through Riverfront. First, keeping on Riverfront/Front Street. Then, after the turn-around, before heading back in to River Market, you'll take a left for an out-and-back on Riverfront Rd. Then a right back on to Front Street (which, actually, is still Riverfront Road).
Keep your head up! Cause you're going to be climbing to the finish. On tired legs (you've been running fast up until now, right??), this feels awful. If it doesn't, you didn't run fast enough. Push it!!!
NOW GO FORTH AND CONQUER (whilst adorning batman suits). I'll be Robin -- see you at the start line.
